One of the down sides of having friends across the UK is that you have to travel to see them. One of the up sides, is that you have to travel to see them. This weekend we did a runner out of London and made for the South West.
My friend moved to Bristol a couple of months ago and it’s been a whole year since we last visited (remember last year’s trip to the Balloon Festival?) so it was great to revisit the countryside and the city.
Anyone who reads this blog regularly knows I’m all about a relaxing weekend with friends, mainly spent chilling out, catching up and eating – and that’s exactly what we did. We sat in the sunshine, eating bread and cheese whilst doing the Saturday crossword. Pretty sure that’s how most Saturday’s should be spent.
I love bridges, and Bristol Suspension Bridge is one of the best. We popped into the visitors’ centre where I learnt that the bridge was the winner of a design competition – something most people already know but it was new to me. Some of the submitted designs were quite incredible but, with a few tweaks, Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s design and engineering abilities won out.
After a wonderful day of wandering around the city, we made it home before the down pour, drank beers and ordered a curry. It’s really all I’m looking for in life. Oh – and a tasty fry up the following morning tops off a perfect weekend.
What makes your dream weekend?
