If I didn’t have Fibromyalgia, what would life be like? I’m not sure I can (or want to) think about an entirely different life but what if I had a pain free spring weekend?
It’s Saturday morning and I’ve woken up feeling refreshed and energetic. I am pain free and, after a lazy half hour catching up on news and social media, I get dressed out and head out for brunch with friends. I look amazing because this is my fantasy so I can look like I want to, and get on my bike. I cycle the half an hour to a cafe with no queue – because I may be capable of queuing but I still don’t want to – and I catch up with friends. We relax with tea and scrambled eggs and then I cycle home – slowly because my belly is full of tasty goodness.
Once at home, I shower and change and head back out for a bit of shopping with friends. We wander around the markets, tasting local produce and seeking out cafes for tea and cake. We take our time to meander through the back streets and I take photographs of people and places that inspire me, making notes to capture thoughts and feelings that I will later pour into blog posts. I then head off and meet R for dinner nearby. (I’d like to feign surprise at all the food creeping into this Saturday, but what’s the point. It was always going to happen.)
After dinner we go for drinks, friends come to join us and I still have the energy and ability to keep going. We pub crawl for a bit and cram our way into bars once the pubs start closing. And then, because I can, I hit the dance floor. I don’t feel vulnerable or nervous. I am buzzing and there is cheesy pop. Perfect.
I sleep through the night with no need for medication and wake up feeling tired, but it’s a wonderful tiredness that comes from having worked hard and played hard. We have pancakes for breakfast because this is my dream weekend so it’s happening. Then we get dressed and head out to the countryside for a walk, stopping off for a pub lunch because I’m not only fit and healthy but also made of money. Who knows, maybe I’ve got a little pup to take for a walk.
On Sunday afternoon I have a bath then get back into pyjamas and chill out for the evening. I like down time before work but I don’t need it. I feel refreshed and alive, and it’s amazing.
